I open this conversation reading a letter to myself – dated Thursday, September 29, 2005 (at 10:38 a.m.) – outlining five things I wanted to change about my life. Nearly ten years later, I revisited that letter, and that head-space, at the top of this program. First line: “Dear Robert, you are not a bad person…” And it goes on from there. The letter ends with five commitments I made to myself – things I wanted to change in my life. And three of the five commitments I wrote in that letter, over a decade ago, have now come to pass in my life. I have manifested, kept and continued those commitments over the years. We, then, launch into our discussion of masturbation, with some statistics from the Kinsey Institute. I share how sex was never discussed in our two-parent-two-children home, and how I never really heard anything about masturbation preached from the pulpit at church. We then move into a discussion of the book “Every Man’s Battle: Winning the War on Sexual Temptation One Victory at a Time” by Stephen Arterburn. We then move into Michele’s “Thought of the Day” (Taking a Moment to Teach and Taking a Moment to Learn). We then follow with Dante’s “Word of the Week” (Restore). Dwayne V. Wiggins Jr. follows that up with his “Inspired Moment” (“You are a blessing and you are blessed”). After Dwayne’s moment, I was inspired to read from Deuteronomy 28:1-14 (Blessings for Obedience). We round out our conversation talking about the virtues of “conscious masturbation” – practicing it when you want to, but not because you need to do it.
